The first day of the 2015 British Open came to a close on Thursday, with Dustin Johnson opening a one-stroke lead.

A slew of other golfers finished tied for second, including Zach Johnson and Jason Day. Chasing history, Spieth entered the clubhouse after shooting a 5-under-par 67. Below is a recap of the first day's events.

What They're Saying

Jordan Spieth (via PGA Tour): "Very pleased. It was a good start. Just tried to hang on there. Even par was a good score on the back. [Chasing history] "Never even came into my mind and it probably won't the rest of the week."

Tiger Woods (via USA Today): "I made so many mistakes. I just didn't play well. It was not ideal. It was just one of those mixed bags. I know that today is a very benign day. Guys are going to go low. Guys have been shooting good numbers. Unfortunately, I did not do that. Hopefully the conditions will be tough tomorrow and I can put together a good round, and we'll move up the board progressively."
