The New York Knicks entered the week 16-64 on the season, the most abysmal in the franchise's history. The team began 2014-15 talking up postseason aspirations, but they have been a dumpster fire for months now.
Hey, at least Knicks fans can take solace in knowing they'll have the best shot for the number one pick in next month's lottery, right? Wrong.
Just when they needed their 65th loss, the Knicks ran off an improbable win instead, defeating the Atlanta Hawks 112-108. The win move the Knicks a game ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the standings. Barring a win by Minnesota over Oklahoma City in their final game of the season, the Knicks are now second in lottery balls and no longer a guarantee for a top 4 draft pick.
Knicks Twitter, which had nobly suffered through all the losing this season thinking it'd end up worth it, were understandably irate and devastated online Monday night.
Literally the only good thing about this season was a guaranteed top-4 pick and the best chance at No. 1. And they go and blow it. This team

Again, the Knicks just dropped fro 25% chance at No. 1 to 19.9% and went from 0% chance at No. 5 pick to 12.3% with that win. — Jared Dubin (@JADubin5) April 14, 2015
Why do I root for this team? I was behind them this whole season. They are a joke. — Daniel (@benchwarmerdan) April 14, 2015

When Knicks were losing the excuse was "this is part of the plan" So why are they winning now & potentially hurting their lottery position? — Frank Isola (@FisolaNYDN) April 14, 2015
In the biggest game of the year for the Knicks, they abandoned the Triangle and went with the Try Angle. How to waste a season of tanking. — Haralabos Voulgaris (@haralabob) April 14, 2015
I honestly don't know what to say to New York fans anymore. Of all the times for a 2-game winning streak...Start shooting 3s, Cole! — Zach Lowe (@ZachLowe_NBA) April 14, 2015
Every Knicks fan I know is a threat to commit a double homicide right now. You gotta love the last 72 hours of the NBA season. — Bill Simmons (@BillSimmons) April 14, 2015
