Los Angeles Lakers are scouring the trades aggressively to overcome their recent run of losses. Their next rumored target? Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans.

After the painful defeat against the Orlando Magic, the Lakers are looking for someone who could ease the load for LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

Lakers Targeting Zion Williamson to Fortify Their Squad

As per Joseph Kallan of Fansided, the Lakers are seriously negotiating to sign Zion Williamson. This follows the franchise stunning the basketball community by acquiring Luka Doncic, and now they want to form a dominant Big Three. But getting Williamson also comes with risks, mainly because of his injury record.

"Whenever a big-name player hits the trade block, the Lakers are always in the conversation," Kallan said. "This time, however, it's not just speculation. The Los Angeles Lakers have already shocked the world by landing Luka Doncic, a move no one saw coming. If they were willing to shake up their roster for one superstar, why not go all-in on another?"

Possible Trade Package: Lakers Will Sacrifice Depth

To acquire Williamson, the Lakers may have to give up significant talent like Austin Reaves or Rui Hachimura, along with future draft picks. Adding Zion's game-changing ability could turn the Lakers into serious title contenders, but giving up such consistent contributors as Reaves could undermine their depth as a whole.

Austin Reaves has been a reliable contributor, scoring and creating, and has become a key element of the Lakers' game plan. Losing him would create a void, questioning whether Williamson's upside is a risk worth taking.

Zion Williamson's Fit with LeBron and Luka

Should the Lakers be able to sign Williamson, the collective of LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Zion Williamson would form a nightmare defensive scenario for the opposition.

Zion's capability to create opportunities at the basket and invite defenders would give space for the perimeter shooting ability of Doncic and create an opportunity for LeBron to do more play-making.

Kallan said that the LeBron-Zion combination would buckle up defenses in the paint. This would give more open shots for Doncic.

Risk vs. Reward: Is Zion Worth the Gamble?

Though the prospect of acquiring Williamson is thrilling, the Lakers need to think twice about the risks. According to Sports Tak, Zion's injury history means that he is a high-risk investment, and sacrificing solid players such as Reaves or Hachimura would leave the team exposed if Williamson's medical problems continue.

If the Lakers decide to agree with this deal, they could assemble one of the most electrifying lineups in the NBA. But if Williamson's injury troubles continue, the trade could backfire, leaving the Lakers with a depleted roster and a massive contract on their books.
