The Los Angeles Lakers are yet to get into the rhythm this season, even with the steady efforts of LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Following the humiliating defeat against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, March 22, and another loss at the hands of the Orlando Magic (118-106), it is clear that the Lakers need to bring in some reinforcements to be competitive.
With heavy-hitting squads such as the Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics at the forefront, the front office of the Lakers is seeking out trades to improve the roster.
Lakers Eyeing Jerami Grant and Robert Williams
To overcome their weaknesses, the Lakers have targeted two possible options: Portland Trail Blazers' Jerami Grant and Robert Williams of Portland. As reported by Dean Simon of the Sporting News, both players are able to provide necessary scoring, defense, and playoff experience for the Lakers.
Grant is a proven scorer with exceptional perimeter shooting skills. His potential to stretch the floor and make clutch three-pointers might take pressure off LeBron and Anthony Davis. Furthermore, Grant's versatility makes him able to defend multiple spots, making him an asset both in offense and defense.
Robert Williams, however, offers top-level defense and rim protection. His shot-blocking skills and rebounding abilities would lock down the Lakers' paint presence. Williams' playoff experience in big-game situations makes him a sure bet for crunch-time opportunities.
The 6-foot-9 big man was previously rumored under the radar of the Lakers and three other teams.

Trade Package to Acquire Grant and Williams
To land both players, the Lakers can potentially have to give up some defensive pieces. A potential trade offer might include forward Rui Hachimura and Jarred Vanderbilt, along with guard Gabe Vincent.
Future first-round draft picks would also be involved to persuade Portland, which is rebuilding and would likely value youthful talent and draft capital.
Long-Term Solutions for the Lakers
Adding Jerami Grant and Williams wouldn't only bring instant relief but potentially long-term stability as well. Grant has a couple of prime years remaining at age 31, and Williams at age 27 can anchor the Lakers' defense for the near future. Together, they complement the Lakers' championship hopes well.
Are the Lakers Ready to Pay the Price?
Though these trades may be logical on paper, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka will have to consider the price.
Losing multiple rotation players and future draft assets may affect the team's depth. But with the roster where it is now, taking a risk may be the only way to provide LeBron and Luka with the supporting cast they require to compete for another championship run.
