The Detroit Lions won a nail-biter Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons in London and they will get their best offensive player back after the bye week.
Calvin Johnson spoke to the media Tuesday and said that he expects to play when the 6-2 Lions come off their bye Nov. 9 against the Miami Dolphins. Johnson is recovering from a high right ankle sprain that has sidelined him for the better part of a month.
"Definitely expect to play," Johnson said. "I'm looking forward to the game, playing [against] some old teammates. That makes it all that much better.”
The Lions have picked up the slack in Johnson’s absence as Golden Tate has registered 349 yards and two touchdowns on 24 catches in the past three games. Johnson has only caught 22 passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns this season.
From a fantasy football standpoint, Johnson should still be owned in all leagues and will return to form in the very near future. Johnson is ranked the No. 6 wide receiver in fantasy for the rest of 2014 according to Fantasy Pros consensus rankings and when completely healthy he could only go higher. Johnson hasn’t lived up to his draft positioning this year, but with half a season remaining, he could be the player that pushes many teams into their respective playoffs.
The Lions are riding a three-game winning streak that could have become a six-game streak if they had a reliable kicker in their 17-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills on October 5.
