Tim Tebow, the recently released, most talked about quarterback in the NFL, has been offered a new job opportunity, but it might not be just what Tebow is seeking. The Legends Football League, formerly known as the Lingerie Football League, has extended a an offer to Tebow in a coaching role.
LFL President Mitchell Mortaza sent Tebow's agent a letter that read, "Now that it appears Mr. Tim Tebow's career in the National Football League may be coming to an end, we at Legends Football League would like to extend him an offer to become our Quarterbacks Coach nationally."
Tebow was recently released by the New York Jets, who just one offseason ago surrendered two draft picks, a fourth rounder and a seventh rounder, plus more than $2 million to acquire the polarizing passer. He was expected to add an exciting, dynamic element to a Jets offense under Mark Sanchez that had the problem of predictability.
Tebow made little impact for the Jets, though, due to either woeful underuse or his own limitations. Tebow attempted just eight passes the entire season, completing six of them for 39 yards and zero touchdowns. He was brought into the games often to run the Jets' "wildcat" offense, which they had previously run with wide receiver Brad Smith. The Jets lack of trust in Tebow to throw, however, allowed defenses to load up on the run with Tebow in the game. He was held to 102 yards rushing on 32 attempts; his biggest chunks of rushing yards were on fake punts.
The timing of Tebow's release likely couldn't have been worse. Many teams do not have their quarterback situations figured out, but they have plenty of bodies in house. Following the draft, many teams have swollen rosters in need of cuts, not additions. It's unclear if Tebow will be able to find a place to play in the NFL this season, so he might have to give Mortaza's offer some thought.
