After mixed reports from The Associated Press, the Oakland Raiders have officially fired head coach Dennis Allen after the Raiders started 0-4.

The Raiders made the decision official late Monday according to Fox Sports and informed the 42-year-old coach that he is no longer employed with the team. The Raiders stand at 0-4 on the season and Allen was 8-28 as the coach in his tenure.

Tight end David Ausberry told ESPN that this is a tough business and it’s hard for a team to recover, but the Raiders will find a way.

"It's a tough deal, especially for him," Ausberry said. "As we all know, this is the NFL and it keeps growing. So we just all got to as a team pull together and keep going forward. That's all we really can do.”

The Raiders are expected to name the interim coach on Tuesday and offensive line coach Tony Sparano is expected to be the first to be offered the job. Other candidates for the role include offensive coordinator Greg Olson and senior offensive assistant Al Saunders.

This move could be the one that breaks general manager Reggie McKenzie as he was on the hot seat before this move was made. Allen was the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos before accepting the Raider job and he is expected to join a team from a defensive standpoint sometime this season.

The Raiders haven’t made the playoffs or posted a winning record since the 2002 season and have a rookie at quarterback in Derek Carr.
