At No. 6 overall the Atlanta Falcons have drafted Texas A&M offensive tackle, Jake Matthews
Pros:
Best Tackle right now
can start immediately
Comes from big football family
Great at everything
Great Technique
Very Smart
Overall as close to perfect a prospect there is
Cons:
Was better on right side
Not angry often
Has shorter arms than other two tackles
Analysis: The Falcons can't trade up and grab one of the big pass rushers so they make the smart pick and take the best tackle on the board. Matt Ryan will be forever thankful that the Falcons have grabbed a man that will be able to keep his jersey clean for years to come. The need for pass rush is still very real, but with great pass rushing prospects in the second round look for Atlanta to snag one immediately.
The Falcons have to be upset they couldn't snag Clowney or Mack, but Matthews is quite a prize considering he would have gone number one overall in the 2013 draft. It isn’t the sexiest pick for the Falcons, but one that will go a long way to rebounding after a terrible 2013 season.
Grade: A
Its not the sexy pick the fans wanted but Matthews is a great prospect that the Atlanta fans should be very happy to have. The other pass rushing prospects could drop into the second round so to grab a player like Matthews and then a fallen star in Kony Ealy or Dee Ford is a home run.
Other Picks: 1. Houston Texans: Jadeveon Clowney
Other Picks: 2. St. Louis Rams: Greg Robinson
Other Picks: 3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Blake Bortles
Other Picks: 4. Buffalo Bills: Sammy Watkins
Other Picks: 5. Oakland Raiders: Khalil Mack
