Astros Infielder Alex Bregman Shaves Mustache Mid-Game Against Royals

Multi-skilled infielder Alex Bregman shaved his mustache as the Houston Astros beat the Kansas Cty Royals 11-3 on Sunday in Houston.

Bregman hasn't been usually self in the past five games for the Astros with a 4-for-20 stat line in his last five games. Hoping to turn his luck around, Bregman shaved his mustache in the second inning. However, it did little to improve on his poor performance as finished the game going 0-for-4 with a single RBI to sunk further down with a .167 average.

Astros teammate Gerrit Cole said that he was clueless as to why Bregman decided to shave his mustache. With the victory, the Astros improved to 52-27 win-loss to remain in second place, just behind the New York Yankees' 50-25 record in the American League. The Royals dropped to 23-54.

"After the game? During? I had no idea. I don't pay to Alex's shaving habits in the middle of the game. I did like the mustache, I thought it played," Cole quipped.

Closing in on the Astros are the Boston Red Sox, which also has a 52-27 slate. The Seattle Mariners are in fourth with a 47-31 slate followed by the Cleveland Indians' 43-33, and the Los Angeles Angels' 41-37 card.

Hot Houston Astros

The Astros lost to the Red Sox twice before dropping one against the Mariners last June 5. It was followed by a 12-game winning streak thereafter before losing to the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 last Tuesday.

The Astros managed to get back at the Rays by beating them 5-1 last Wednesday before suffering a gut-wrenching 1-0 loss against the Royals last Friday. Currently, the Astros are riding a two-game winning streak after annihilating the Royals twice over the weekend. Houston hopes to close the month on a high note as it hosts the Toronto Blue Jays starting on Monday before traveling to Tampa Bay on Thursday to take on the Rays.
