Almost a year ago, Carlos Boozer opened up his intentions of making an NBA comeback after a tough season with the Los Angeles Lakers, looks like that his plans were heard by two teams who have been reportedly monitoring him in China.
Several reports are surfacing online, such as The Score, saying that the 35-year old power forward is being eyed to deepen the bench of two playoff teams, especially on the big man spot. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, Los Angeles Clippers and the Miami Heat are the teams who are in hot pursuit of the former Duke standout.
The 35-year old Boozer is almost two years removed from the NBA, with his recent stint with the league is with the Los Angeles Lakers, who finished 21-61 in the said season. He averaged 11.8 points, 6.8 boards and 1.3 assists in 71 games before signing with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association.
Clipperholics pointed out that picking the 6-foot-9 forward would provide a timely boost for the team, who is getting lackluster numbers from Wesley Johnson and Brandon Bass. The 41-29 Clippers are currently sitting at the 5th spot at the standings and is looking good of securing of a playoff spot opposite, probably, the Utah Jazz.
The Miami Heat, on the other hand, has been looking for a back-up or at least another front court player that can blend with the team's offense. With Hassan Whiteside being the only legit center for the 34-36 Heat, who is currently tied with the Detroit Pistons at the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference, Boozer would be a welcome acquisition to support James Johnson, who has been playing stellar in the team's previous games.
According to the CBA stats, Boozer averaged 17.4 points, 10,6 rebounds, 1.1 assists in 46 total games with Guangdong.
Other than Boozer, Jimmer Fredette is also on the radar of both teams based on the similar reports. The former BYU Cougar has been tearing the CBA up with his high-scoring prowess, averaging 37.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.6 steals for the Shanghai Sharks.
