There’s a big difference between “nowhere near being done” and not going to happen. That much was made clear by UFC president Dana White, as he said that he believes the massive spectacle that is the prospective fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will eventually happen.
“I do think it’s gonna happen,” Dana White said during Wednesday’s appearance on “Conan.” I think it’s going to be a tough deal, because obviously [there are] a lot of egos involved in this deal and a lot of people, so that always makes it tougher,” White added, pointing out that with so much money involved, he doesn’t see how the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor doesn’t happen.
Over the weekend, Floyd Mayweather announced that he was coming out of retirement to fight Conor McGregor. The two have traded barbs for months, hyping up the potential fight in the process. Meanwhile, as reported by MMA Mania, there might be an underlying reason why Mayweather has suddenly become aggressive in calling for the fight, as UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping said that Mayweather was scammed out of “a lot of money” and wants to make up for it. According to Michael Bisping, he got wind of the rumor during his recent trip to Las Vegas, which leads him to agree that the fight will indeed go down in the future.
Floyd Mayweather told Conor McGregor to stop whining about the money and sign the paperwork with the UFC. While it’s unclear what paperwork the undefeated fighter was referring to, Dana White publicly saying that he thinks the super fight will happen, means that the three sides are trying to work something out.
After winning the UFC lightweight title last November, Conor McGregor has maintained that the next time he steps in to fight, it will be through the ropes of a boxing ring. As pointed out by MMA Fighting, Floyd Mayweather is expecting at least $100 million for the potential fight – the same number McGregor has repeatedly said he wants.
