Microsoft did not announce Surface Pro 5 last month at MWC, 2017. So it is expected to unveil the successor of Surface Pro 4 in spring. Till then, here are some specs, features and expected release rumors.
Microsoft has not yet announced any news about the Surface Pro 5. However, WinCentral showed one image from Microsoft official news site called win10-feature-surface-pro-5-z. Another promising proof collected is the name of the device that appeared in a LinkedIn profile of one of the Microsoft's employee.
It has been changed now, but it is stated in the product designer Toby Finch's profile that he worked for devices of the future including HoloLens, Surface Pro 5, Xbox. As written in Digital Trends Microsoft was expected to announce the device in October 2016 as it is introducing new and enhanced Surface products at its annual hardware event. Some sources are saying that Surface will arrive after creator's update that is expected land in April.
Surface Pro 5 will be powered by seventh-generation Kaby Lake processor. There will be a 4K display. According to Digital Trends, there will be an inclusion of more expansion ports and a move to USB Type-C that will allow a new device to be thinner than its predecessor. Surface Pro 4 has a single USB 3.0 port, a Display port, and an SD card reader.
Microsoft recently announced that Windows 10 will support ARM processor, so there is a possibility that Surface Pro 5 could also come up with the same. If this happens, there will be an LTE variant as well. However, ARM support is not likely to arrive soon, neither in the Creators update nor in the Redstone 3 update that is expected to come to the end of 2017. So, the possibility of that is very low.
Currently, Surface Pen magnetically attaches to the side of the Surface Pro 4. The company recently patented an active pen with wireless charging, so this Pen could come with Surface Pro 5. There were some complaints about poor battery life in the previous model, so a new machine is expected to offer larger capacity battery.
