The New England Patriots has just completed a seemingly magical season that saw them bagging the 2017 Super Bowl Championship. However, an impactful downside may be underway.
Head Coach Bill Belichick has been called to testify in the double murder trial of former Patriot Aaron Hernandez. It can be recalled that the tight end player is currently serving a life sentence for the 2013 killing of a man identified as Odin Lloyd in Dorchester.
However, the case to which Bill Belichick will be associated with involves the slaying of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in 2012. The drive-by shooting incident has occurred in the South End part of Boston.
As of late, Aaron Hernandez's defense team has listed around 120 potential witnesses. The list, which included the Patriots' mentor, has been submitted to the Suffolk Superior Court.
Hernandez has already stated that he is not guilty of the charges. Almost immediately after his involvement in the murder of Lloyd, the New England team has decided to release him.
In a separate filing for the double murder case, prosecutors has pointed out that it is their intention to show the former Patriot star's activity at the time of the incident. A transcript of a recorded prison call that Aaron Hernandez took prior to his conviction in the Lloyd trial is due to be presented.
The tight end player has lamented the fact that since it is him in the surveillance video with a gun, the assumption has been clear that he indeed committed the murder.
In addition, Aaron Hernandez has shared that he cannot get his own mother to participate in the proceedings. When it comes to the details about the occurrence, he distrusts her.
Prosecutors also want to include a transcript about a call between current Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey and Hernandez. The two players are former teammates at the University of Florida.
At this point, recorded conversations have been cited to play a role in the case. Prior to the South End shootings, the prosecuting team has shared that Aaron Hernandez told a friend that one of the victims tried to slug it out with him in a heated confrontation inside a club.
