Don Mattingly, Los Angeles Dodgers Reach Contract Extension [VIDEO]

The Los Angels Dodgers have reached a contract agreement extension with manager Don Mattingly, according to ESPN.

Exact terms of the agreement were not revealed, but the website reports the team is expected to formally announce the agreement later this week, which is believed to extend Mattingly, already under contract for 2014, for at least another three seasons.

Despite not having the security of a long time deal in his pocket, Mattingly managed the Dodgers to the National League Championship Series last year, where they lost out to the St. Louis Cardinals.

After the Dodgers were eliminated the team soon open discussions with Mattingly on the deal that culminated this week.

Prior to taking over as manager of the Dodgers, Mattingly played 14 MLB seasons, all with the Yankees, where he composed a .307 career batting average, hit 222 home runs and drove in 1,099 runs.

A six-time All-Star, the man known as "Donnie Baseball," also won nine Gold Glove Awards and three Silver Slugger Awards. In 1984, he also won the American League batting title and a year later was named league MVP.

During his Yankees career, Mattingly also served as captain of the team from 1991 to 1995.
