Bill Cowher To Redskins? Mike Shanahan Fired, Washington Needs Big Name Replacement? [VIDEO]

The Washington Redskins have already interviewed former Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl winning coach Bill Cowher twice about replacing the fired Mike Shanahan.

Washington Post reporter Dan Steinberg reports Redskins owner Daniel Snyder was part of the contingent that met with Cowher, who in his 15 seasons in Pittsburgh led the Steelers to eight division titles, 10 playoff showings and two overall Super Bowl appearances.

Among the other coaches rumored to be on the Redskins' list of candidates are former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman and Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

"I want to hear what their dreams are, what they can do, the fire in their belly to coach the Washington Redskins, to inspire the kids on this football team," Redskins GM Bruce Allen told The Post..

Another candidate could be Baylor coach Art Briles, who coached prized second-year quarterback Robert Griffin III during his Heisman Trophy winning last season at Baylor.

"It's the person who has the understanding and the knowledge of what he wants to teach the players," Allen told The Post of the kind of coach the Redskins are looking to hire. "As I said at the beginning, we're going to look for someone who is a leader first and it could be on the offensive side of the ball, defense or special teams. There have been a couple special teams coaches who have made great head coaches. We're going to keep an open mind."
