Cash Money Records, led by rap star Lil Wayne and label founder "Birdman," could soon be following Jay Z's lead and entering into the world of sports agency.
According to Forbes.com, on October 25 Cash Money Records Inc. filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to launch "Visionaire Sports Group."
Forbes adds legal documents assert the filing was made to protect "Visionaire Sports Group" when used in connection with "sports agency services, namely, management, representation and promotion of professional athletes; business management of sports people; talent recruiting services in the field of sports" and other sports-related ventures."
Since launching Roc Nation Sports earlier this year, Jay Z has made quite the industry splash, signing such high-profile talents as Kevin Durant, Robinson Cano, Geno Smith and Victor Cruz.
Recently, the hip hop legend prominently figured in negotiations leading to Cano leaving the Yankees and inking a record-setting $240 million guaranteed deal with Seattle.
Much like the partnership agreed upon by Jay Z and CAA, Forbes reports Cash Money appears to be leaning toward the idea of investing in an existing sports agency group as a way of assuring that the company has a certified agent within its ranks from day one.
Forbes adds Cash Money has recently been in talks with Mississippi-based sports agent group Play 2 Win Sports, Inc.
