The Houston Rockets have offered the Brooklyn Nets a package of Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin for point guard Deron Williams, according to ThaCover2.com.
The website reports talks between the two teams were initiated last week, but the Nets eventually balked at the proposal because one of the primary reasons former Boston legends Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce both agreed to be dealt to Brooklyn was for the chance to play with the All-Star Williams.
Before last week's devastating news that center Brooks Lopez is out for the season, the Nets had been picking up steam after Williams came back to the lineup following ankle troubles.
With Dwight Howard the unquestionable man in the middle in Houston, Asik hasn't made any secrets of his mounting frustrations with his lack of playing time.
He averaged a career-high 30.3 minutes a game last season, but has seen his time almost cut in half this season with the free-agent arrival of Howard. The team recently set a deadline where they hoped to deal the disgruntled veteran by Dec. 19.
Meanwhile, former Knick guard Lin is expected to be reinserted in the team;s starting lineup after starting point guard Patrick Beverley suffered a broken right hand that is expected to keep him sidelined for up to six weeks.
