
Italian soccer league Serie A has announced that it is postponing games scheduled for Easter Monday.
The postponement is due to the announcement of the death of Pope Francis, which was made by the Vatican itself.

Serie A posted on its official X account its decision to postpone league games due to the death of Pope Francis.
Among the games that are affected are Torino vs. Udinese, Cagliari vs. Florentina, and Genoa vs. Lazio
Enilive and Primavera 1 matches scheduled for Easter Monday have likewise been postponed.
Serie A said in its announcement that the new schedule for affected games is not available, as of writing.

Pope Francis Dies at 88
The Vatican announced the passing of Pope Francis with a statement written by Cardinal Kevin Farrell.
"Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis, the statement read. "At 7.35am this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His Church.
"He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized," the statement added. "With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God."
