Stefon Diggs recently visited the New England Patriots. The meeting had more of a "get to know you" approach, but fans are hopeful that there's a development soon.

The free-agent wide receiver did not reveal what happened during the visit, but insider reports said that the two parties "intend to stay in touch."

Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz reported that the meeting between Diggs and the Patriots was more of an introductory session rather than a contract negotiation. The visit was primarily focused on understanding Diggs' current health status after his season-ending ACL injury in 2024.

"It was a 'get to know you' and 'where you're at medically' type of visit," Schultz wrote.

MassLive's Karen Guregian reinforced this opinion, stating that the meeting "went well" but that a contract agreement is not in the cards at this moment.

Patriots Are Checking on Diggs' Health

Diggs started the first eight games of the 2024 season with the Houston Texans before suffering an ACL tear on October 27. Despite the injury, his record is self-explanatory. The four-time Pro Bowler was dominant from 2020-2023, recording more than 1,100 receiving yards in five straight seasons before his abbreviated 2024 season.

His trip to New England saw him have dinner with staff members of the team on Wednesday, then more meetings and a physical on Thursday, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

The Patriots obviously wanted to see where his recovery stood before committing anything financially.

Can Diggs Be a New Offensive Power in New England?

If he signs, the 31-year-old would immediately help bolster a beleaguered Patriots passing game. Last year, tight end Hunter Henry topped the team with only 66 receptions for 674 yards, demonstrating the necessity of a true No. 1 receiver.

According to Bleacher Report, the Patriots have focused on building up their offense, especially for second-year quarterback Drake Maye. Offensive linemen Morgan Moses and Garrett Bradbury, and wide receiver Mack Hollins are included in the offseason signings.

Yet, none of these signings take away from New England's desire for Diggs. With $81.6 million in cap room—the highest in the NFL according to Over the Cap, the Patriots can afford to get a deal done if they decide to pursue it.

Both sides are at least keeping the door open, for the time being. If his rehabilitation continues on a positive note and talks intensify, the Patriots might just have a new superstar wide receiver to add strength to their offense.
