The fatal shooting of Kansas City Chiefs reporter Adan Manzano has turned into a dark affair, with Louisiana officials charging 48-year-old Danette Colbert with second-degree murder.

Manzano, a young star in the world of sports media, was killed on Feb. 5 while reporting on the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Colbert was originally charged with fraud and theft for charging items to Manzano's credit card. She now stands accused of murder as more evidence has come to light.

Adan Manzano's Death: What Happened?

Adan Manzano, 27, was found dead at a hotel in Kenner, Louisiana, shortly after covering the Super Bowl. KCTV5 reported that surveillance footage showed Colbert leaving the hotel about an hour after arriving with Manzano.

According to Jefferson Parish Coroner Gerry Satanovich, Manzano's death resulted from the combined toxic effects of Xanax and alcohol. While the coroner listed the manner of death as undetermined, prosecutors proceeded with the murder charge against Colbert.

Colbert's Criminal Past and Schemes of Fraud

Colbert's criminal past is long-standing and full of incidents of alleged fraud, with Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley indicating that New Orleans investigators knew all about her schemes.

Colbert was seen regularly in the French Quarter, where she allegedly operated several scams involving drugging and stealing from men. Her record indicates a trend of similar offenses, prompting authorities to seek harsh charges in this instance.

Relationship with Suspected Accomplice Ricky White

Besides Colbert, 44-year-old Ricky White was arrested by the police, said to be a transient with a last known residence in Gretna, Louisiana, People reported.

White was arrested in Hollywood, Florida, and is accused of robbery and fraud. Correspondence between White and Colbert that authorities revealed said they cooperated closely to set up these crimes. White remains in a jail in Fort Lauderdale, while the Louisiana authorities seek his extradition.

Kenner Police's Statement

At a press conference on March 18, Chief Conley clarified that he wanted Colbert to stay behind bars. "We don't want Ms. Colbert to see the light of day again," Conley said, highlighting the gravity of her purported crimes.
