The Green Bay Packers have been trying to trade top cornerback Jaire Alexander all through the offseason, according to a new rumor. The new rumor came a day after the Goedert-Huff trade rumors.

Despite Alexander's irrefutable ability, his recent poor performance with respect to remaining healthy has caused the Packers to want to dump him before the next NFL Draft.

Packers Still Seeking Trade Partner for Alexander

ESPN insider Rob Demovsky indicated that although Alexander remains on the roster, the Packers continue trying aggressively to make trades involving him.

The club hasn't approached Alexander with a pay reduction and indications are he would not consider it if asked. With Alexander's massive $17.5 million salary set to kick in at the beginning of the regular season and no remaining guaranteed money on his contract, the Packers are thinking carefully about what they are going to do.

Injury Issues Have Lowered Alexander's Worth

When healthy, Jaire Alexander is one of the league's top cornerbacks. Injuries have plagued him in recent years, though. What's worse, Alexander has appeared in only seven games in each of the past two seasons, frustrating the Packers with his inability to remain on the field.

What's clear here is that the signing of Nate Hobbs is a bid to find stability at cornerback, giving the Packers an insurance policy in case they decide to move on from Alexander.

Missed Free Agency Trade Opportunities

Waiting until after free agency, the Green Bay Packers could have lost out on possible trade suitors. The New England Patriots, New York Giants, and Indianapolis Colts, who needed help at cornerback, have already splurged on elite cornerbacks in free agency. This leaves the Packers with fewer possible trade candidates, making it harder for them to trade Alexander.

Would Alexander Be Released If No Trade Occurred?

If the Packers cannot acquire a proper trading partner before the NFL Draft, they can be compelled to think of releasing Alexander, Clutch Points reports. Although the team is not in a hurry to do this, releasing him before the beginning of the regular season would enable them to save his hefty salary. Nevertheless, the Packers would rather have some sort of return in the form of a trade than cut him loose with no return.

Hobbs Signing Indicates Packers Are Ready to Move On from Alexander

Hobbs' signing may indicate Packers are prepared to turn the page on Alexander. Hobbs, who is versatile and plays solidly in coverage, offers a new dynamic to the Packers' secondary. Hobbs would presumably take on a larger role if Alexander were to be traded or released, bringing stability to the secondary.

Last time, Sports World News reported that Cooper Kupp was rumored to join the New England Patriots. However, this did not materialize as the Seattle Seahawks signed him on a three-year $45 million deal.
