After a devastating 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, the Kansas City Chiefs are already making roster adjustments to prepare for the 2025 NFL season.

The team has signed quarterback Chris Oladokun back to a Reserves/Futures contract, which has raised eyebrows regarding possible changes to their quarterback depth chart.

Three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes struggled in the championship game, going 21 for 32 for 257 yards, three touchdowns, and two picks. His first half was especially unlikelier, completing just six of 14 passes for 33 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions, per The Mirror report.

The Chiefs, who were looking to make history with a three-peat, came up short, and the Eagles took revenge for their 2023 Super Bowl defeat. Still reeling from this disappointment, Kansas City's front office did not waste any time in making offseason changes.

Who Is Chris Oladokun?

Former seventh-round draft pick Chris Oladokun was on the Chiefs but only saw action late in the 2024 season. He played five snaps on offense against the Denver Broncos and had one five-yard rush.

Although not getting much playing time, Oladokun is intent on earning a larger role. In talking about his approach previously, he mentioned:

"I'm always going to come out here and compete. No matter who's in the room. Every day, I'm trying to beat Pat (Mahomes), Carson (Wentz), and Ian (Book); that's my job."

His confidence and commitment to improvement are evident, especially after training alongside Mahomes and renowned quarterback coach Jeff Christensen.

Mahomes Uses Loss as Motivation

Mahomes wasn't afraid to show his frustration following the loss in the Super Bowl, equating it to his other heartbreak against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during Super Bowl LV. This was also heartbreaking to Travis Kelce who was expected to have an A-game that night.

"They both sucked. These will be the two losses that motivate me the rest of my career," Mahomes said.

Even with the loss, Mahomes is set on making these failures work as motivation for future success. The good thing for the 29-year-old QB is that he owns his mistakes. Every time Mahomes knew that he failed to help the team or struggled a lot to contribute, he would acknowledge his fault.

Even Tom Brady thinks that Kelce and Mahomes will be feeling "acute pain" for their poor Super Bowl performance, according to MSN.

For now, we know that the Chiefs are not closing the door on anything at quarterback, particularly in depth. Although Mahomes is the unquestioned starter, the backup role may undergo some adjustments as Kansas City assesses its roster for the upcoming season.
