Jordan Poole ended up quite worse than he would perhaps want to have in the third preseason game for the Washington Wizards against the Toronto Raptors as he scored just three points and went only 1-for-7.
The Wizards, nevertheless, were on for a comfortable 113-95 win. Not for Poole, however, who was quite far from what the crowd expected from him, especially when it was shooting beyond the arc and not finding it so easy with 0-for-6.
Wizards Win First Preseason Game, But Poole's Contribution 'Poor'
The Washington Wizards ended the preseason with a 1-2 record due in large part to their home win against the Raptors, writes CBS Sports. They were good all around this night but not much on the shooting end if you ask Stephen Curry's draftmate in Poole.
Part of why he is penciled in as the starting point guard for the regular season might mean that games like this create some consternation about his ability to do this on a nightly basis. For tonight, anyway, he missed all six of his three-point tries and could get only one of two free throws.
However, scoring was not Poole's issue. Instead, he used his 22 minutes to contribute in other ways: two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. It is just that his inefficiency from the field paved much thought in the minds of the viewers about the season ahead.
Social Media Comments on Jordan Poole's Game
Immediately, NBA fans reacted to the rather disappointing performance of Poole, and, of course, social media went abuzz with negative chatter about the former Golden State Warriors guard, according to Sports Illustrated. Their hope was high on "stepping up his game" as he enters a new role with the Wizards, but his disappointing performance only doused flak: "@Guts9290: Jordan Poole putting up Bronny James numbers in preseason balling!"
"Jordan Poole 1-7 with 3 points lol. He's in mid-season form already", @Billiegoat20 posted on X.
@Leyahlovee, another NBA fan candidly said, "Jordan Poole is a bum ????????".
The posts filled the increasing bashing of Poole as he tried to find his pace with his new team.
Poole's Possible Reserve Role for the Wizards
Needless to say, he will still be a huge piece for the rotation when the season resumes, especially as the starter point guard. The Dubs' lack of experience, combined with probably having to win now, makes it unlikely for the team to give Poole more freedom to have fun and take risks on the offense.
He will be inconsistent sometimes, such as in the preseason game here, but he will see extended playing time much of the way because of contributions to the glass and on-ball.
Fantasy basketball owners have to be very careful with the roller-coaster-type games played by Poole, but the Washington role will offer a pretty safe floor for those looking to target him in the eighth or ninth rounds of drafts.
Therefore, the rebuilding stage of the Wizards would offer Poole plenty of opportunities to develop to ensure he plays more minutes in the game.
