LeBron, Bronny James Set to Make NBA History: First Father-Son Duo to Play Together For Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have made Bronny James the 55th pick in the draft of the 2024 NBA Draft. This young man will, for the first time in history, go down in the NBA record books as having the chance to make his debut on the court with his dad, NBA legend LeBron James.

Leagues in the game are well known for their highlights, and in this league, LeBron and Bronny will share the court both as opponents and teammates, making it such a fantastic, memorable moment in the history of basketball.

Bronny James, drafted out of USC, will join the Lakers with a league record and his father LeBron James. Now, the father will be his teammate, and the guys surely will make great history together.

Throughout Lakers Media Day, Bronny James said how much he was excited to practice beside his father, still his roommate, so the bond they share makes the season pretty intriguing for fans and analysts and both players involved, Greg Beacham of The Associated Press reports via NBA.com.

Now, into his 22nd season in the NBA at 39 years old, LeBron is the league's oldest active player for the second consecutive year. He continues to show no signs of slowing down, and all indications are that four-time NBA MVP and champion LeBron continues to stay on an elite level of play.

"I think I'm most looking forward to practice, just going head to head with each other," Bronny said.

"That's such a crazy feeling, to be in practice with your dad and competing at a high level. But on the other side of that, having to go against LeBron James is kind of a lot in practice every day. But yeah, I'm looking forward to it as well," the young James added.

Last season, LeBron had remarkable stats: 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game when the Lakers finished a season at 47-35. He now forms part of the few team anchors to the Lakers' offense and is one of the league's most feared players.

What Has Changed with the Lakers' Roster in the 2024-25 Season?

Basically, the Lakers come into the 2024-25 season with mostly the same roster as last year. On the free agency side of things, the team lost a few of its most vital pieces: point guard Spencer Dinwiddie and small forward Cam Reddish.

Dinwiddie joined the Dallas Mavericks on a minimum-level deal, while Reddish signed the same minimum-level deal to join the Milwaukee Bucks. Their exits will open opportunities for the promising draft selections: Bronny and former Tennessee shooting guard Dalton Knecht.

Bronny brings youth and excitement but with the same expectation for greatness. He has already showcased a lot of potential so early in the season, and playing for his dad will certainly not scrounge up much more maturity he could get on the court.

Another rookie, Knecht is expected to add backcourt depth as the Lakers look to build on the successful 2023 campaign.

According to Sports Illustrated, another offseason move from the Lakers is acquiring JJ Redick as the new head coach. There's a lot of pressure around the former sharpshooter-and of course-a lot of plate for Bronny who is expected to perform at his best in every game.
