The Houston Texans were affected by Hurricane Beryl, which went through southeast Texas.
The NFL franchise's home venue, NRG Stadium, appeared to have sustained damage due to the natural disaster.
Photos taken by local witnesses on Monday, July 8, showed a huge hole in a grooved portion of the venue's retractable roof.
Previously known as Reliant Stadium from its opening in 2002 until 2014, the NRG Stadium is the first venue in the NFL to feature a retractable roof.
The stadium recently hosted several games for the 2024 Copa America, including the quarterfinal match between Argentina, featuring soccer star Lionel Messi, and Ecuador, which took place last Thursday, July 4.
NRG Stadium officials have stated they await a full assessment before releasing a damage report.
NRG Stadium has been damaged by a hurricane in the past
The stadium has previously faced hurricane damage, particularly from Hurricane Ike, a Category 2 storm that struck in September 2008, resulting in significant roof damage.
The event also caused the postponement of an NFL regular season game between the Texans and the Baltimore Ravens.
If Hurricane Beryl did cause extensive damage to the venue, the Texans have ample time to fix it. Their first preseason home game is scheduled for August 17 against the New York Giants.
