Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant and new Dallas Mavericks signing Klay Thompson shared a successful history.

Durant praised Thompson after the sharpshooter posted a farewell message to the Golden State Warriors, his former longtime team, as he prepares to move to Dallas.

"A Bay Area God. One chapter closes, another one opens. Keep doing u champ," the two-time NBA Finals MVP commented on the Instagram post.

Durant was Thompson's teammate during his stint with the Warriors from 2016 to 2019. They won two NBA championships together in 2017 and 2018 and narrowly missed out on a three-peat in 2019.

Both Durant and Thompson suffered season-ending Achilles and ACL injuries in the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.

Thompson shared a heartfelt message to Dub Nation on Instagram, accompanied by several pictures capturing countless moments he had with the Bay Area squad.

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put that Dubs jersey on from day 1. I really just wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships as possible to the region," the four-time NBA champion said.

The 34-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks worth $50 million in free agency amid a problematic final season with the Warriors.

"Don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Sea captain out," Thompson concluded.
