The Golden State Warriors declined a trade proposal that would have brought them a marquee player.
The Chicago Bulls offered two-time NBA star Zach LaVine to the Dubs in exchange for Chris Paul and Andrew Wiggins.
However, Golden State rejected the proposal and waived Paul on June 30.
The 29-year-old shooting guard's exorbitant contract could be a factor in why the Warriors turned down the trade despite the potential to land an All-Star player.
The former two-time Slam Dunk Champion is owed roughly $138 million over the next three seasons in his current deal, and the Warriors are looking to get under the luxury tax threshold to avoid paying another season of the penalty.
LaVine's trade value has plummeted over the past year, with the Bulls proposing as many as 15 trade scenarios to different teams around the league to no avail.
Warriors lose Chris Paul for nothing
Meanwhile, the Warriors have officially announced that they are waiving Chris Paul after one season with the team.
The 39-year-old point guard had an unguaranteed $30 million salary with the Warriors for 2024-25, which the team decided not to accept.
This means that the 12-time NBA All-Star and future Hall of Famer will walk away from the Bay Area for nothing after the Warriors traded Jordan Poole, Patrick Baldwin Jr., Ryan Rollins, and two draft picks to the Washington Wizards last year to acquire him.
