NBA trades can be a life-changing moment for players. Traded players are thrust into a new city, needing to adjust to new teammates, coaches, and staff while leaving behind familiar surroundings they were accustomed to.

Small forward Jalen McDaniels received this news on a random Thursday afternoon on June 27 when he was traded from the Toronto Raptors to the Sacramento Kings.

The 36-year-old learned about the trade during a workout. His trainer, Clint Parks, broke the news to him and recorded his reaction, which was then posted on Instagram Stories.

McDaniels was in disbelief upon learning about the trade and couldn't believe it was him who got shipped, but Parks reiterated that it was indeed true.

Jalen McDaniels is the brother of Jaden McDaniels, a 2024 NBA All-Defensive Second Team member and forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Raptors get massive haul for Jalen McDaniels

The Raptors received a significant haul for McDaniels, acquiring former NCAA national champion point guard Davion Mitchell and 2023 EuroLeague MVP forward Sasha Vezenkov.

Toronto also got the 45th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft in the transaction, which they eventually used to select point guard Jamal Shead out of Houston.

McDaniels averaged 3.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game on 34.4 percent shooting from the field in 10.8 minutes per game across 50 games for the Raptors in the 2023-24 season.
