JJ Redick has been a significant figure in the sports media landscape since ending his 15-season NBA career in 2021. However, he has now been named the 29th head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

There might be a conflict of interest if he continues his work as a broadcaster and hosts his podcast, leading him to confirm his future during his introductory press conference on Monday, June 24.

"I am, for the time being, and hopefully it's a very, very long time, I am excommunicated from the content space. There will be no podcast... I am done with podcasting for now," Redick stated.

Redick was the first active NBA player and the second active professional athlete to host a podcast in 2016, hosting "The Vertical" on Yahoo Sports.

Before being hired by the Lakers, the 40-year-old was hosting his own "Old Man and the Three" podcast and "Mind the Game" with Lakers star LeBron James.

JJ Redick alludes to having unique content for listeners

Despite quitting his podcast and broadcasting job for now, Redick hinted that he might do a special edition of his podcast during the offseason's non-busy parts to thank the fans who have supported his work throughout the years.

"We'll do something when I have a breather from what we have coming up. I'm gonna be drinking out of a firehouse for the next month, but at some point, we'll just do something for all of the people that listened and we'll have a small little video," the former Duke Blue Devil said.

Aside from podcasting, Redick has also been a broadcaster for ESPN since 2021, including being one of the network's announcers during the 2024 NBA Finals.
