The Phoenix Suns face another setback in their depth, which has been a consistent weakness for the team in recent years.

Veteran guard Eric Gordon had previously signed a two-year deal worth around $6 million in the summer of 2023, with the second year being optional.

However, according to league insider Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports, the 6-foot-3 shooter could test the open market this summer by declining his player option for the 2024-25 season, which is worth $3.4 million.

The 2017 NBA Sixth Man of the Year is likely to attract interest in the veteran's minimum market from championship contenders seeking additional floor space with his elite long-distance shooting.

Previous reports have claimed that Gordon is 50-50 about returning to Phoenix. The 35-year-old also expressed interest in reuniting with his former team, the Houston Rockets.

Eric Gordon was major key bench player for the Suns

The American-Bahamian was one of the few bright pieces on the Suns' depleted reserves, which saw its prior deep bench reduced.

The team acquired stars Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal over the past year in win-now moves that sacrificed bench depth and future draft capital.

Gordon had a solid campaign for the Suns in the 2023-24 season, averaging 11.0 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 68 games during the regular season, starting in 24 games.
