Boston Celtics icon Paul Pierce was asked about the possibility of serving as an assistant coach for their fierce rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, under Sam Cassell if he were hired by the purple and gold franchise for their head coaching vacancy.
Speaking on former teammate Kevin Garnett's podcast "KG Certified," Pierce initially was firm in refusing a possible offer from the Lakers, despite Garnett stating hypothetical salaries of $5 million, $7 million, and $10 million.
However, when Garnett raised the possible salary to $20 million, Pierce sat up straight in his seat and hilariously responded.
"What time is practice?... What time is the coaches' meeting?," the 2008 NBA Finals MVP stated, prompting intense laughter from Garnett.
With Garnett laughingly impersonating Pierce's possible scenario on a phone call with Cassell, Pierce added, "Hey, everybody's got a price."
Sam Cassell is a strong candidate to be the next Lakers head coach
Cassell, who played for the Celtics from 2008 to 2009 as part of their championship-winning team in 2008, has a strong possibility to succeed Darvin Ham's post.
The 54-year-old currently serves as an assistant coach for the Celtics under Joe Mazzulla since 2023.
The 2004 NBA All-Star started his coaching career as an assistant with the Washington Wizards from 2009 to 2014, moving on to the Los Angeles Clippers from 2014 to 2020, and then with the Philadelphia 76ers from 2020 to 2023.
In both of his Clippers and Sixers stints, he notably served as an assistant under head coach Doc Rivers, who coached the Celtics to their 2008 title.
