The Denver Nuggets took control of their Western Conference Semifinals by securing a 3-2 series lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 112-97 win in Game 5 on Tuesday, May 14 at home in the Ball Arena.

Nuggets star Nikola Jokic played a pivotal role in turning around the script for his team after they dropped the first two games of the series, putting their championship defense bid in jeopardy.

The Serbian center absolutely dominated Game 5 despite Timberwolves center and reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert guarding him for most of the evening.

An astonishing stat revealed that Jokic shot 8-of-9 from the field with Gobert as his primary defender during Game 5, which is remarkable considering the Frenchman's status as an elite defender, tied for the most NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards in league history with four.
