The Los Angeles Lakers are facing numerous decisions following their straight elimination from the NBA playoffs at the hands of the Denver Nuggets.

LeBron James' future with the team is also uncertain, as he has one year remaining on his current deal, which is a player option for the 2024-25 season worth $51.4 million.

Given that the NBA's all-time leading scorer could potentially opt out of the contract, the Lakers are reportedly willing to accommodate any contract length that James desires until he decides to hang up his sneakers.

League insider Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported on the latest "The Rich Eisen Show" episode about the ongoing development.

"The Lakers intend to have LeBron James come back on any term that he wants to. Whether that be a one-year deal, two-year deal, three-year deal, whatever. They'd love to continue to have LeBron James in the purple and gold until he calls it quits, whenever that may be," the reporter told the show.

The 39-year-old held the title of the oldest active player in the league during the 2023-24 season, yet he continued to showcase himself as one of its top players despite his mileage.

LeBron James' options in free agency

James has three summer options: opting into his 2024-25 player option, signing a new deal with the Lakers, or exploring free agency to join other teams.

One of the rumored potential contracts James could receive from the Lakers is the maximum three-year, $164 million extension they are eligible to offer.

James will enter his 22nd season in the NBA in 2024-25, tying Vince Carter for the most seasons played in league history.
