New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson had a roller coaster evening during Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals playoff series against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, May 8.

The 27-year-old sustained a right foot injury in the first quarter of the game and was questionable to return after missing the entire second quarter.

However, Brunson emerged from the tunnel and took some shots to warm up for the second half, and fans inside Madison Square Garden in New York showed their love for the point guard by giving loud MVP chants.

Brunson talked about the wonderful support he received from the diehard and passionate New York fans during the post-game conference.

"This place has been nothing but special to me, so I appreciate everything that they do," the 2024 NBA All-Star told the media.

The Knicks won the game 130-121. Brunson scored 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting and added five rebounds and three steals.

Jalen Brunson MVP chants gets compared to historic Knicks moment

Brunson's iconic moment from the game echoed what happened exactly 54 years ago on May 8, 1970, when the Knicks were about to face the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 7 of that year's NBA Finals.

Knicks star center Willis Reed's severe torn thigh muscle injury had caused him to miss Game 6, but he surprised the fans by walking onto the court during warmups, prompting loud cheers.

He started the game and contributed only four points and three rebounds, but the momentum shift he caused and his defense against Wilt Chamberlain gave them the win and the title.
