College basketball prospect Bronny James entered his freshman season with the USC Trojans amid considerable hype, largely due to his father being Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

The 19-year-old combo guard did not exactly produce stellar performances at USC, and his freshman season was nearly derailed after he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during an offseason workout.

NBA scouts also believe that James' role on the team hindered his chances of making the pros this year, according to insider Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

"When I talk to scouts about Bronny they don't think that he was able to put his best foot forward this year because USC didn't play him in his position," the 46-year-old reporter said.

Windhorst also added that the 2023 McDonald's All-American selection was often played out of his natural position on the court.

"They had several different guard prospects that were NBA draft prospects, and he sort of played on the wing. They say he should play point guard, where he played and excelled when he was in high school."

Bronny James' possible new school

James entered the college transfer portal while declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft, keeping his options open.

Should the 6-foot-4 guard opt to return to college and transfer to another school, Duquesne is anticipated to be among his top choices, according to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Their recently appointed head coach, Dru Joyce, is a high school teammate of LeBron James at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio.
