Former Pro Bowl Alternate Comes Out of Retirement to Sign With Falcons Once Again

The Atlanta Falcons are bolstering their defensive line as they prepare for the 2024 NFL season.

The team will be signing veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman to a new deal, per league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

The 30-year-old is returning to the NFL after a brief retirement. His last action in the league was during the 2021 season.

Goldman was drafted in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears with the 39th overall pick. He has spent his entire NFL career with the team thus far.

In the 2019 season, Goldman recorded one sack, 29 combined tackles, and two tackles for loss, earning him recognition as a Pro Bowl alternate.

Eddie Goldman's bizarre situation with the Atlanta Falcons

Eddie Goldman has been affiliated with the Atlanta Falcons for nearly three seasons despite not appearing in a single game all these years.

After being released by the Bears at the end of the 2021 season, Goldman signed with the Falcons in July 2022. However, just two weeks after joining the team, Goldman announced his retirement from the NFL.

In March 2023, Goldman came out of retirement, and the Falcons reinstated him to their active roster. Before the 2023 season, he was placed on the exempt/left squad list, never appearing in a single snap.

In April 2024, Goldman was released from the Falcons' reserve list but re-signed with the team.
