Cameron Sutton, who previously played as a cornerback for both the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers, has issued a robust statement following his arrest and subsequent release from a charge of domestic violence.

The 29-year-old turned himself in voluntarily to authorities at the Orient Road Jail in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday, March 31, after weeks of evading law enforcement. He initially faced a charge of domestic battery by strangulation.

"On April 1, 2024, he was released on his own recognizance. After completing an investigation into this matter, the Office of the State Attorney has elected to file a single misdemeanor. Both Mr. Sutton and the mother of his children request privacy in this matter, as they view this as a family matter and wish to resolve it as a family, " Sutton's legal team, Todd Foster and Jason A. Setchen, said in a statement released on Monday, April 1.

Authorities first issued a warrant for his arrest on March 7. According to a bulletin post from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Sutton was apprehended at 8:24 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 31.

Police searched for Cameron Sutton for several weeks

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office posted a message on social media seeking help locating Sutton last March 20.

After learning of the situation, the Lions encouraged Sutton to surrender and seek legal advice. During the search by authorities, the Tennessee product was present at the Lions' training facility in Allen Park, where he participated in workouts with the strength and conditioning staff.

Subsequently, the team released him from the roster shortly, two weeks after the initial arrest warrant was issued.
