The Pittsburgh Steelers' decision to trade quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles has a shocking reason, which has now been revealed.
The 25-year-old signal-caller was traded to Philadelphia alongside a 2024 fourth-round pick in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick and two 2025 seventh-round picks.
The Steelers reportedly traded Pickett to the Eagles, partly due to concerns regarding his behavior. According to journalist Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pickett expressed dissatisfaction with the team's acquisition of nine-time Pro Bowl selection quarterback Russell Wilson.
Aside from this, Pickett also reportedly canceled an out-of-town workout with Steelers receivers during the day after Wilson agreed to sign with the Steelers.
In the 2023 season, Pickett recorded a passer rating of 81.4 with 2,070 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions across 12 games.
He will likely assume a backup role with the Eagles behind Jalen Hurts.
Steelers upgrade backup QB position
The Steelers have strengthened their backup quarterback position by acquiring former first-round draft pick Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears.
In return, they traded a 2025 sixth-round pick, which could be upgraded to a fourth-round pick if Fields participates in 51 percent of the team's snaps in the upcoming 2024 NFL season, according to league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Russell Wilson is expected to be the Steelers' starting quarterback in the 2024 NFL season.
