An intriguing revelation has emerged regarding the trade that sent quarterback Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Before the trade, at least four more teams expressed interest in trading for Fields, but his representatives requested that he not be traded to those teams.

The 25-year-old wanted to join the Steelers, and the Bears honored his preference, according to league insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Bears completed the trade, sending Fields to the Steelers on Saturday, March 16, in return for a 2025 sixth-round pick.

The 2025 sixth-round pick that the Steelers received from the Bears will be upgraded to a fourth-round pick if Fields participates in 51 percent of the team's snaps in the upcoming 2024 NFL season, as per league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Bears currently possess the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. With Fields no longer on their roster, this opens the door for them to select another franchise quarterback without any dilemma.

They are anticipated to choose signal-caller Caleb Williams of the USC Trojans, widely regarded as the consensus No. 1 pick.

Justin Fields to back up Russell Wilson

Upon Fields' arrival with the team, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was transparent with him regarding his role, informing him that nine-time Pro Bowl selection Russell Wilson will hold the starting quarterback position for the upcoming campaign, as Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported.

During the 2023 season, Fields achieved a career-high of 2,562 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, maintaining an 86.3 passer rating throughout 13 games.
