Shortstop Tim Anderson has signed a one-year five-million dollar contract with the Miami Marlins, per ESPN.

Anderson joins Miami after a rough season in Chicago. Despite his stellar performance in the World Baseball Classic playing second base, he failed to turn it up during the regular season, posing .245/.286/.296 with one home run. He posted an MLB Worst OPS as well.

According to the Athletic's Jon Greenberg, Anderson had a 296 slugging percentage, which was the lowest amongst American League Batters.

He suffered a season-ending finger injury in August 2022 and returned in 2023, but suffered from a sprained left knee and right shoulder soreness during that season.

The White Sox declined to pick up his $14 million option back in November, paying him a 1 million dollar buyout.

Tim Anderson to the Miami Marlins

Anderson was drafted by the White Sox in 2013. He flourished there; becoming an all-star twice in 2021 and 2022, finishing in seventh MVP voting during the 2020 season, and winning a Silver Slugger award. Anderson was also the AL Batting champion in 2019.

He has a .282 career batting average with 98 home runs, 338 RBIs, 528 runs scored, and 117 stolen bases.

Anderson now joins a Miami Marlins team, after being pursued by the Angels and Giants, who finished last season with a 84-78 record. Despite having a down season, Tim Anderson can fill a void for the Marlins at the shortstop position.
