As the 2024 Formula 1 season draws near, the eagerly anticipated docu-series "Drive To Survive" is set for its annual release on Netflix. The series will provide a recap of the significant events from the past season, enhanced with dramatization for an engaging and compelling viewing experience.
The series has undeniably contributed to the surge in Formula 1's audience in recent years, experiencing a significant boost in popularity, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when people sought engaging content to watch.
The upcoming season is scheduled to premiere on February 23, just a week before the opening race of the 2024 Formula 1 season in Bahrain, from February 29 to March 2.
What to Expect from Netflix's F1 Drive to Survive Season 6
1. McLaren's turnaround
McLaren accomplished one of the most remarkable midseason transformations in Formula 1 history during the 2023 season. Initially struggling as bottom-dwellers in the first eight races, the team executed a significant upgrade ahead of the Austrian and British Grands Prix.
This sparked an incredible turnaround for the rest of the season, with McLaren securing nine podiums, three fastest laps, two sprint poles, and four sprint podiums, including one victory. Additionally, the team achieved double podium finishes in Japan and Qatar.
2. The lone win outside of Red Bull
Carlos Sainz of Scuderia Ferrari emerged as the sole driver to secure a victory outside the dominant Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in the Singapore Grand Prix.
Sainz's triumph ended Verstappen's F1 record of 10 consecutive wins and thwarted Red Bull's attempt at an undefeated season.
While it stood as the only non-Red Bull win of the year, Verstappen went on to clinch victory in the remaining seven races, magnifying the significance of Sainz's achievement.
3. Daniel Ricciardo's return to the grid
Daniel Ricciardo experienced a tumultuous year, getting released from his McLaren contract at the end of the 2022 season with a year left on his pact due to underwhelming performances.
The charismatic and popular driver then made a sensational return to his former team, Red Bull, as a reserve behind Verstappen and Perez.
Meanwhile, Red Bull's sister team, AlphaTauri (now Visa Cash App RB), faced challenges, particularly with rookie Nick De Vries struggling. De Vries was eventually sacked midseason, paving the way for Ricciardo to secure a seat in the middle of the campaign.
4. An episode about Haas and Guenther Steiner
A "Drive to Survive" season would be incomplete without an episode featuring Haas and its former team principal, Guenther Steiner. Despite consistently being at the bottom for much of their existence, they are prominently featured each season, possibly due to their American roots.
However, this is the last time they will be prominently featured, with Steiner being relieved of his duties earlier this year.
