WWE's biggest event of the year, WrestleMania XL is approaching, and the build-up for potential matches for the event starts now.
WrestleMania XL will be held over a two-day span on April 6 and 7, 2024 at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The event marks a historic moment as the first WrestleMania under the ownership of TKO Group Holdings, with the McMahon family no longer in control.
With Triple H now at the helm with complete creative authority, fans anticipate intriguing storylines and fresh narratives leading up to the grand event.
3 Potential WrestleMania 40 Matches
1. Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton
Rhodes and Orton share a storied history, having been affiliated as members of the faction "The Legacy" in the late 2010s, alongside Ted DiBiase Jr.
The alliance came to an abrupt end when Orton, sensing a potential betrayal from Rhodes and DiBiase, preemptively struck by betraying them instead. Following this betrayal, Orton and Rhodes engaged in a notable feud, both before and after the dissolution of their alliance.
However, Rhodes later ventured into All Elite Wrestling (AEW) upon its establishment in 2019, rejuvenating his career and subsequently making a return to WWE in 2022, marking a significant chapter in his wrestling journey.
Orton returned from an 18-month injury layoff in November 2023 during Survivor Series: WarGames pay-per-view, and he was part of Rhodes' team that faced off against The Judgement Day.
While currently allies, a sudden twist could see Orton win a 15th world title within the next few months, becoming the second-most decorated champion in WWE history. This could set up a WrestleMania clash where Rhodes aims to "finish his story" by challenging Orton for the title.
2. CM Punk vs Seth Rollins
World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins against CM Punk for the title could be another compelling matchup at WrestleMania XL, given the tension between the two.
After CM Punk's surprise return at the Survivor Series: WarGames pay-per-view event last November, a viral clip showed Seth Rollins reacting intensely, flipping off Punk and shouting expletives from the ring. This genuine moment set the stage for a highly anticipated and emotionally charged feud between the two.
The duo has exchanged verbal barbs in the past, with Rollins even dubbing Punk a "cancer" during Punk's tenure in AEW. A potential world title bout between them could be the culmination of their feud.
3. The Rock vs Roman Reigns
After The Rock made his WWE return on New Year's Day, he famously called out reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, his real-life cousin and perhaps the top star in the company today.
During a segment, the Hollywood star playfully mentioned having dinner in San Diego and asked fans for seating suggestions. One of the cheeky options he proposed was "the Head of The Table," which unsurprisingly elicited a strong reaction from the audience.
Reigns, who's held the moniker "Head of the Table" for years, responded to The Rock's call-out with intrigue and attention.
A match between two of the biggest wrestlers in company history would surely defy expectations generate immense hype.
