Major League Baseball had a major shakedown. What trended most over the weekend was Shohei Ohtani's contract and salary with his new club, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Dodgers signed the two-way superstar from their state rivals Los Angeles Angels for a whopping $700 million contract that will run for 10 years.

The Blue Crew beat the likes of the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Chicago Cubs for the signature of the two-time MVP.

Shohei Ohtani Contract Details

Shohei Ohtani's contract is the most expensive in MLB and the history of any sports league worldwide.

The Japanese sensation will earn $70 million annually, the highest yearly salary of any player in America.

This might seem like a huge spending for the Blue Crew, but Ohtani even had to tweak what he was supposed to receive.

MLB insider Mark Feinsand revealed the newest Dodger "deferred" the bulk of his salary so that the Dodgers could build around him.

Ohtani's contract is the largest in all of American sports. However, his is not the most lucrative.

Here are the following four largest contracts in sports all over the world. The list is based on the total amount signed between players and sports organizations.

1. Lionel Messi, $674 million

Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi is with Inter Miami now, but his last four years with Barcelona were very profitable. He signed a contract in 2017 amounting to $674 million.

The deal made him the highest-paid soccer player in the world during that time, although the next one on the list has him beat if the endorsements and other deals are to be included.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo, $536 million

The soccer superstar's $536 million with Al Nassr comes in second. However, CR7 has more to take home than Ohtani as this contract only covers two years. He will earn $548,000 per day and more than $22,000 every hour.

3. Patrick Mahomes, $450 million

NFL is the best professional sports league in America in terms of profit, and while collectively, the salary is not that high for players, some players get paid handsomely.

But to get paid that, you have to be good, like Patrick Mahomes good.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback owns the largest contract in the NFL after signing a 10-year $450 million extension contract last September.

The deal will keep the two-time Super Bowl MVP with the team until 2031.

Cincinnati Bengals' QB Joe Burrow is the highest-paid player in 2023, as his $55 million annual salary eclipses Mahomes' $45 million.

4. Karim Benzema, $436 million

Benzema is one of the biggest recruits from Europe by a Saudi Pro League club, as they had to break the bank for him to get his services. Al-Ittihad signed the French player for $436 million for two years.

He will earn $218 million per year, much higher than his $20 million yearly salary with Real Madrid.
