Monty Williams' contract with the Detroit Pistons is regarded as one of the most lucrative in NBA history, if not the most lucrative.

The Virginia native played nine years in the NBA for five teams and averaged just 6.3 points per game.

While his playing career is subpar as a 24th overall pick in 1994, his coaching career is much different.

His most significant achievement is leading the Phoenix Suns to the 2021 finals. He moved on from the team and is now with the Pistons, who gave him one of the most historic deals for an NBA head coach.

Williams, 52, signed a $75-million, six-year deal with the Pistons. That is a more than fair deal since he will coach a young team without the pressure of winning.

The contract puts his annual salary at $13 million per year. Monty Williams' net worth in 2023 only got bigger.

Monty Williams Net Worth: $25 Million

Williams made most of his wealth as a coach in the NBA.

His first main gig on the sideline was with the Phoenix Suns in 2019, when he was hired as a head coach. Before that, he had gigs with the Portland Trailblazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Philadelphia 76ers as an assistant coach.

His initial agreement with the Suns was $25 million for five years. Due to his success in his third year, he signed an extension for 2-3 years at $8-10 million annually.

With that, his wealth got bigger. However, he was fired long before the contract terms were fulfilled. He will still get paid despite that.

Pistons saw the opportunity to sign him, and they made him an offer he can't refuse, according to NBA Insider Shams Charania.

"This time around, Gores, Weaver and the rest of the Pistons' front office decided to not take "no" for an answer and put numbers in front of Williams, as well as a plan to court and entice him to come help an up-and-coming squad get to the next level, as he had done with the Suns, rather than sit out a season."

To put his contract into perspective, his contract with the Pistons is as good as that of top NFL coaches like New England Patriots' Bill Belichick and Denver Broncos' Sean Payton.

His salary is also better than that of any MLB coach.

If he ever succeeds in bringing the young Pistons to another level, his salary could reach as high as $100 million.
