In the latest Aaron Rodgers injury update, the 39-year-old is bent on returning this NFL season for the New York Jets.

The earliest time previously mentioned was January 2024. But there has been a timeline change on the Aaron Rodgers return date with reports he could return by mid-December, Melissa Stark of NBC News reported on Sunday, November 12.

"He said, 'I know it sounds insane, but you do a good surgery, you have a good patient, it makes this possible,'" Stark stated.

An abrupt return could be costly for Rodgers, although he is nearing that age when NFL players would normally call it a career. Here are some potential scenarios should Rodgers make a way too early return this 2023-24 season.

1. Rodgers' return may not guarantee success for the Jets.

The New York Jets could get a shot in the arm if Rodgers does return. There is a glaring problem with Zach Wilson trying to hold up the fort at the QB position.

Wilson has had his moments and disappointments. However, the glaring reality is that there are personalities such as Joe Namath who feel that Wilson is simply someone who has to go and be replaced, the LA Times reported.

Regardless, Jets coach Robert Saleh is keeping the faith in Wilson and even batted that the 24-year-old's numbers are painting a different picture, CBS Sport reported. How long the Jets' coach's patience will last remains to be seen.

2. Rodgers returns but gets injured again.

Rodgers rushing his road to recovery places him in a precarious position. Although modern technology has helped, there is no telling if he can be as efficient as before.

The reality is that opposing teams won't go easy on Rodgers if he does return to action. He may incur other injuries on his other extremities, if not his Achilles tendon.

3. Rodgers may see an abrupt end to NFL career.

The worst-case scenario is seeing Rodgers aggravate the injury, which would officially end his 2023-24 season. It could also be a sign that the time for him to retire is now.

At 39 years old, Rodgers has nothing more to prove as far as his NFL career is concerned. If it does come to a close, he is financially well off through endorsement and business deals.

In this scenario, it may be an abrupt end for the four-time NFL MVP. Hence, the only thing Rodgers would fall short of is a swan-song ending to his storied pro football career.
