The New York Giants may have lost more than a game in Week 9 on Sunday, November 5, to the Las Vegas Raiders, 30-6. Giants QB Daniel Jones left the game on a non-contact knee injury in the first half and never returned.
The big question in the air right now: Is QB Daniel Jones done for the season?
The initial suggestion on Jones' injury is that the 26-year-old play-caller suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, according to sources cited by ESPN. The 6th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft is set to undergo an MRI on Monday, November 6, to determine the extent of his injury.
Jones is believed to have suffered the non-contact injury in the final play of the first quarter after his knee buckled when he was sacked. He managed to get up and stay on the game before falling to the ground untouched on the first play of the second quarter.
Tough break for Jones
It was an unfortunate development for Jones, who had just returned from a neck injury he suffered in a Week 5 loss to the Miami Dolphins, CBS Sports reported.
Tommy DeVito, who had been alternating with Tyrod Taylor in Jones' absence before Week 9, came in to replace the former Duke Blue Devil. DeVito was elevated as primary backup after Taylor was placed on the injured reserve due to a rib injury.
Jones has not had a good season overall. He had completed only 68.9% of his passes and averaged 5.9% yards per attempt. Further, four of his passing attempts have been intercepted thus far.
The year has not been especially kind for the native of North Carolina, who signed a four-year $160 million contract with the Giants in March, NFL.com reported. It will be interesting to see how the Giants will address their quarterback shortage with Jones and Taylor in sick bay.
