The Philadelphia Phillies fell short of advancing to the World Series after losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-2, in the NLCS at the Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night, October 24. At this point, all they can do is mope although Phillies team manager Rob Thomson had the guts to give the D-Backs credit.

“You got to tip your cap to ’em. They played their game when they came back here. To come into this building, and beat us in this atmosphere — twice — it’s an accomplishment. And you tip your cap,” the 60-year-old manager said in the post-game via CBS Philadelphia.

Considering the Phillies needed just one win at home to advance to the World Series, Thomson’s classy gesture was commendable. But rather than sulk, the Phillies manager batted that his guys had nothing to be ashamed of because they gave it their all this MLB season.

It was a hard pill to swallow for Philadelphia, especially considering that they once held a 3-2 series lead. But as catcher J.T. Realmuto stressed, they just have to play better and learn to finish the job, ESPN reported.

"It's not that we're not good enough to win," catcher J.T. Realmuto said. "We just have to finish the job and play a little better. They played better than we did the last few days."

A World Series most never saw coming

The Diamondbacks now prepare for the World Series where they will face the Texas Rangers. Both will face each other on Friday, October 27, at the Globe Life Field in an all-wild card World Series that most did not see coming, the Associated Press reported.
