Charlotte Hornets rookie Brandon Miller's involvement in the shooting incident in January took a different twist after the second overall pick of the 2023 NBA Draft was named in a wrongful death lawsuit.

Initially, Miller's college teammate back when he still played for Alabama Crimson Tide, Darius Miles, was charged with capital murder for the death of a woman named Jamea Harris. Miller's friend Michael Davis was also charged.

The 23-year-old woman was visiting her cousin in Tuscaloosa along with her boyfriend before the incident happened.

Now, the family of Harris filed the wrongful death lawsuit and is seeking a jury trial to award damages, ESPN reported. The mother of Jamea, Decarla Raietta Heard, reportedly made the filing.

"The family would like the opportunity, through their attorneys, to investigate why and how the gun was brought to the scene of a confrontation that resulted in the death of their daughter. Once we have had the opportunity to evaluate the evidence in the case, we can make decisions about the degree of culpability, if any, of each," Attorney Kirby D. Farris, one of three lawyers representing Heard, stated.

In January, Jamea Harris was killed in a shooting incident at the Tuscaloosa strip near the University of Alabama campus.

Brandon Miller found himself embroiled in the incident after a police officer testified that the former Crimson Tide cager was at the crime scene and that the weapon was retrieved from his vehicle, per SI.com.

The 2022 McDonald's All-American claimed he was unaware of what Miles planned to do with the weapon. It was also a shady development considering the Hornets will open their 2023-24 NBA season on Wednesday, October 25, against the Atlanta Hawks.
