New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has made allegations against New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones for a questionable move during their game on Sunday, September 24, at the MetLife Stadium.
Gardner had accused Jones of hitting him in the sensitive area of the groin after a skirmish during the middle of the third quarter when the Patriots attempted an unsuccessful quarterback sneak.
"My stomach [is] hurting a little bit. I don't even know what to say. I do gotta ice up. He's trying to stop me from having kids in the future. He's tripping," the 2022 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year said.
How did the incident happen?
The referees had already halted the play due to Jones' progress being halted, but he proceeded to advance and collided with Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley, resulting in Mosley bringing him down to the ground.
Following the initial collision, a brief altercation occurred with some pushing. After Jones got back on his feet, he and Gardner seemed to pass each other, but Gardner forcefully pushed him to the ground in apparent frustration.
During this altercation, Gardner gestured towards his groin area, and a referee intervened to separate the two players. Notably, no penalties were given during this incident.
Meanwhile, Jones downplayed the incident.
"Just football. I think it's a physical game and at that point in the game, you just have to fight to get the one yard," the 2021 Pro Bowl selection said.
