Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw's future with the team is uncertain after spending the past 16 seasons with them. Amid retirement talks, Kershaw's priority remains on the current season rather than the upcoming offseason.
The three-time NL Cy Young award winner said that being in the playoffs is a nice distraction from getting sentimental if he hangs up his gloves at the end of the campaign.
"Whenever it could be your last one, maybe you take an extra second. But I'm so far away from that decision that I don't even have time to worry about it," the 35-year-old said.
The 2014 NL MVP said last week that he is unsure of pitching for the Dodgers in 2024, noting that there are many variables to consider in making his decision.
Clayton Kershaw is on a one-year contract
Currently on a one-year deal worth $20 million, the ten-time MLB All-Star remains a crucial player for the Dodgers, who are vying for a championship.
Despite his age, Kershaw boasts an impressive 13-4 record, a 2.42 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, and a 3.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio en route to his tenth MLB All-Star game appearance this season.
The 2020 World Series champion has spent a significant time recovering from injuries over the recent years, including a six-week stint on the injured list due to a shoulder injury earlier this season.
